Amid the chirping of summer cicadas and the strains of farewell anthems marking new journeys ahead, the 2026 Commencement and Degree ConfermentCeremony ofXSYUwas held in the Gymnasium of Yanta Campus on the morning of June 25.

University Party and administrative leaders including Chang Jiang, Wang Jinfu, Wang Huiqiang, Cheng Yongqing, Su Wenfu, Zhang Rongjun, Zhang Xiaoyong and Gao Hui attended the ceremony. Heads of all functional departments and schools, faculty representatives, alumni representatives, together with more than 3,000 graduates and their parents gathered at the venue to witness this precious milestone of youthful accolades.The degree conferring segment was presided over by Zhang Juntao, Member of the University Party Committee and Vice President, while the commencement ceremony proper was hosted byChong Yuhong, Member of the University Party Committee and Vice President.

The solemn and rousing national anthem echoed, officially kicking off the ceremony. Chang Jiang, Secretary of the University Party Committee, and Wang Jinfu, President of the University, jointly received the collective donation to the Devoted Heart Fund from all graduates of the Class of 2026, as well as the silk scarf painting “One Heart Along the Silk Road,Harmony in Diversity”themed on Central Asian culture, a gift presented by graduates of the School of Humanities to mark the 75th anniversary of the university’s founding.

President Wang Jinfu delivered a speech titled “Embrace Simplicity, Pursue Truth, Cherish Beauty”, extending sincere wishes to all graduates.From three perspectives — the international expansion of a “First-classXSYU” venturing boldly into the wider world, the remarkable breakthroughs of a “CulturalXSYU” carrying forward arts and culture, and the warm youth-oriented education embodied by a “HappyXSYU” — he recounted the extraordinary academic journey of the Class of 2026 amid the university’s vigorous growth.

Drawing on exemplary stories of distinguished alumni, model-worker alumni and outstanding students, he elaborated on the connotations of the three core concepts: To “Embrace Simplicity” is to stay true to one’s original aspiration and work diligently, cast aside impetuosity and utilitarianism, and root oneself steadfastly in the energy sector with a plain and sincere heart. To “Pursue Truth” is to seek genuine knowledge and shoulder real responsibilities, uphold the principle of seeking truth from facts, and wholeheartedly fulfill the mission of serving the nation through energy expertise with solid professional capabilities. To “Cherish Beauty” is to nurture tenderness and create profound beauty, revere mountains, rivers and all nature, pass on humanistic warmth, and write brilliant youthful chapters through hard work and a strong sense of responsibility.

President Wang Jinfu encouraged all graduates to uphold the founding philosophy of “Establish oneself with sincerity, walk the path in pursuit of truth, and elevate the soul through reverence for beauty”, and cultivate a life realm of “Take root with unadorned integrity, build a career by seeking truth, and nourish the heart with an appreciation of beauty”. He urged them to integrate personal aspirations into the national energy development strategy, forge ahead on the broad stage of the new era, stay down-to-earth and persevere consistently, retain their pure original aspiration and youthful passion, uphold the core spirit ofXSYUthroughout their lives, live up to their youthful years, march toward boundless horizons, and forge ahead steadily toward a distant future.

University leaders and distinguished guests presented certificates in turn to representatives of outstanding graduates, newly appointed alumni directors, and authors of outstanding doctoral and master’s dissertations or practical achievements. They also presented graduates with exclusive commemorative badges, crude-oil seals, and purple-leaf plum pendants, engraving the warmth of campus life and the petroleum-inspired original aspiration into every graduate’s cherished memories.

Zhou Jie, an outstanding alumna and winner of the 2026 National May Day Labor Medal and New Era Youth Pioneer Award, who graduated from the master’s program of the School of Petroleum Engineering in 2022, delivered an inspirational address drawing on her firsthand experience working at the gas production frontline of Changqing Oilfield. She encouraged her juniors to uphold the original aspiration of the petroleum industry, cultivate a craftsman’s dedication through solid work, and shoulder the responsibilities of the younger generation.

Professor Zhou Desheng, an expert entitled to the State Council Special Allowance and head of the National University Huang Danian-style Teacher Team, delivered a message to graduates on behalf of all faculty members. He encouraged them to carry forward the Iron Man Spirit, deepen their professional expertise, always cherish the warmth of their alma mater, and venture into the vast world of the energy sector to let their youth bloom.

Representatives of doctoral, master’s, undergraduate, and international student graduates took the stage one after another to deliver speeches. Recounting precious moments of their growth on campus, they expressed heartfelt gratitude for the university’s nurturing, their teachers’ mentorship, and their classmates’ companionship, and pledged their youthful commitment to serving the nation through the energy sector.

Graduate representatives presented flowers to representatives of teachers, administrative staff, and service support personnel, extending their thanks to all guardians of the campus.

All graduates took a solemn oath to carry forward the petroleum heritage, bravely shoulder the mission of the times, and — in the name of youth — report for duty to the motherland!
