As golden autumn brings refreshing breezes, distinguished experts and scholars gather together. On October 11th, the Inaugural Meeting of the Academic Committee of the Research Institute of Marginal Oil and Gas Development Technology of Xi'an Shiyou University was held atXSYUYanta Campus .
Li Yang, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Scientist of China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec Group), Wang Jinfu, President of the University, Zhang Rongjun, Vice President, representatives of domestic oilfield experts attended the meeting. Huang Hai, Dean of the School of Petroleum Engineering, and Cui Shizhang, Dean of the Research Institute of Marginal Oil and Gas Development Technology, were also present. The meeting was hosted by Zhang Mu, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee.
First of all, on behalf of the university, Wang Jinfu delivered a welcome speech. He extended a warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all members of the Academic Committee represented by Academician Li Yang and the distinguished guests for their presence and guidance.He pointed out that the efficient development of marginal oil and gas resources is a key area to ensure national energy security and consolidate the strategic energy barrier. It is also a crucial frontier in the national energy strategic layout. TheXSYU’s establishment of the Academic Committee of the Research Institute of Marginal Oil and Gas Development Technology is a key measure to proactively respond to the country's major energy needs, deepen the connotative development of disciplines, and fulfill the university's mission of serving the national strategy.He expressed his hope that the Academic Committee of the Research Institute of Marginal Oil and Gas Development Technology will give full play to its advantages as a high-end think tank and its leading role in the industry. It is expected to become a“navigator”and“think tank”guiding the development direction of the institute, helping the institute produce a number of original achievements with significant industry influence, cultivating a group of outstanding energy talents with strategic vision, innovative capabilities and practical literacy, and injecting strong momentum into the national cause of marginal oil and gas resource development.
At the subsequent appointment ceremony, Zhang Mu read out the“Decision of Xi'an Shiyou University on Appointing Members of the First Academic Committee of the Research Institute of Marginal Oil and Gas Development Technology”. Wang Jinfu issued the appointment letter of Chairman of the Academic Committee to Academician Li Yang, who then successively awarded the appointment letters to the Vice Chairmen, members and Secretary-General of the committee.

After the appointment ceremony, Cui Shizhang delivered a report on the preparation process, strategic positioning, and development plan of the Research Institute. He elaborated on the institute’s mission and vision of focusing on“bottleneck”technological problems and building an integrated innovation platform integrating“cutting-edge technology research and development, applied talent training, and transformation of major achievements”.He also reported the institute’s future development strategy and implementation path.
In the committee members’suggestion session, all participating members spoke freely and put forward a large number of valuable and pertinent suggestions on the academic direction, research priorities, and collaborative innovation mechanism for the future development of the research institute.
Academician Li Yang extended warm congratulations on the official establishment of the Academic Committee of the Research Institute. He highly affirmed the strategic significance of its establishment and, from the perspective of national energy security, put forward earnest expectations and clear requirements for the institute's future development direction, scientific research organization model, and young talent training, pointing out a clear path for the institute's future development.
After the meeting, the unveiling ceremony of the Research Institute of Marginal Oil and Gas Development Technology was held in front of the East Lecture Hall Teaching Building. Subsequently, the committee members and distinguished guests visited the institute's laboratories together.
