New Breakthrough! Our University’s ESI Top 1% Disciplines Increase to Four

On May 8, 2025, Clarivate Analytics, a globally authoritative academic evaluation institution, released data indicating that the “Materials Science” discipline, led by our university’s School of Materials Science and Engineering, has successfully entered the global top 1% in the ESI (Essential Science Indicators) rankings for the first time. To date, our university now has four disciplines - Engineering, Chemistry, Geoscience, and Materials Science - ranked among the world’s top 1% in ESI.

As per the guidance of the 3rd Party Congress, the university’s Party Committee has placed a high priority on discipline construction and vigorously implemented the “Peak-Cultivating and Foundation-Building Initiative”. It has been through systematic reforms in management mechanisms, performance management systems, and talent evaluation that the university has purposefully optimized the allocation of discipline resources, strategically strengthened its petroleum and petrochemical-featured disciplines, and advanced emerging interdisciplinary fields in new energy and materials. Consequently, it has ignited the fundamentals for connotative development of disciplines, which has enabled the “Petroleum & Natural Gas +” core to yield a variety of large-scale platforms, teams, projects, and achievements. A breakthrough in discipline construction has catapulted the university onto a fast track of development, supporting its goal of becoming a high-level research and teaching institution.
