On the morning of October 24, the academic forum "The Contemporary Value of the Iron Man Spirit" was successfully held at the First Meeting Room in Huyi Campus of Xi'an Shiyou University. The event was attended by Cheng Yongqing, Deputy Secretary of the University's Party Committee, who delivered an opening address. Presiding over the forum was Zhang Xiaoyong, a member of the University Party Committee and Vice President of the university.
Cheng Yongqing extended a warm welcome to all the guests and delivered a brief introduction to the XSYU. He noted that Xi’an Shiyou University is the only multidisciplinary regular higher education institution in Northwest China with a distinct focus on petroleum and petrochemicals. It was initiated and established under the solicitude of proletarian revolutionaries of the older generation, including Xi Zhongxun. With a profound revolutionary heritage, the university has long been dedicated to cultivating students with the Iron Man Spirit and has established a talent development system emphasizing"Four Solid Foundations and One Innovation"(solid integrity, solid knowledge, solid practice, solid perseverance, and innovation). In recent years, based on major scientific research platforms of Ministry of Education and provincial level, the university hasbuilt its ideological and political education brand around the Iron Man Spirit.Cultural productions such as the musicalFinding Petroleum for Our Countryhave been launched, receiving widespread public acclaim.Cheng said that, during this forum, with a focus on the achievements of Iron Man spirit research, we work to improve the development of morality education and talent cultivation endeavors, so as to provide solid ideological foundation for the training of talents who can shoulder major missions of national rejuvenation in today’s era.
During the keynote report phase, five Iron Man spirit researchers delivered in-depth and eloquentspeeches.
Sun Baofan, Distinguished Professor of the Party School of the CPC Daqing Municipal Committee and Daqing Normal University, and the author ofIron Man Biography, delivered a speechthemed his lecture on the topic of "National Heroes Forged in the Hexi Corridor and the Songliao Plain",He fondly recalled the oath made by Wang Jinxi at the May 4th Youth Day report meeting in 1963: "We will build our motherland into a prosperous nation, and we will be proud Chinese who command respect!". Furthermore, in light of the highly recognition and praise from all sectors of society, and party and government institutions, he confirmed thatIron manis undoubtedly national hero.
Ma Yinglin, Honorary Director and Distinguished Professor of the Daqing Spirit (Iron Man spirit) Research Institute, Party School of the CPC Daqing Municipal Committee,summarizedits distinctive historical significance in terms of socialist development, national rejuvenation, and passing on spiritual spectrum of the party surrounding fournarrativedimensionsincluding a man himself, country, nation, and party.He demonstrated that the Iron Man Spirit stands as a revolutionary cultural symbol, marking a new historical height in the cultural confidence of both the Party and the people, achieved under the Party's leadership in the pursuit of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Xin Weiqiang, Minister of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of PetroChina Daqing Oilfield Company, in the context of four relations including“practiceand spirit”,“company development and spiritual inheritance”,“experience and lesson learned”, and“openness and conservatism”, he pointed out challenges and focal concerns when it comes to develop, popularize, and practice Daqing spirit (Iron Man spirit).
Xiao Shengke, Minister of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of PetroChina Yumen Oilfield Company,elaborated on the four profound stages of Wang Jinxi's spiritual transformation. This journey spanned from his awakening of class consciousness to the forging of firm faith, and from his deep sense of responsibility for the nation to the philosophical sublimation of his beliefs.Also, he noted that, Iron Man spirit delivers great significance in serving as a driver in terms of passing on struggle anddiligencetraditions, drawing on collective wisdom and power of all sectors of socirty, achieving the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and building China a modern socialist country on a new development stage in a new era.
Guo Gangyan, Chief Expert of theIron Man spiritResearch Center of our university and Vice Chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Society for the History of Science and Technology, delivered a speech titled "An Analysis of the External Factors Contributing to the Making of the Iron Man".In his presentation, he highlighted the key figures who profoundly influenced Wang Jinxi's life. He asserted that the training and nurturing provided by the Party and the state were pivotal in both stimulating and amplifying his exceptional personal qualities.This process, he noted, also vividly demonstrates the profound depth of Chinese culture, the superiority of the socialist system, and the strong political leadership of our Party.
During the keynote speech session, Cheng Yongqing highlighted the irreplaceable role of the Northwest petroleum industry during the period of national economic recovery. He emphasized that only by tracing back to its foundational spirit and remembering its history in this new era of Dual Carbon goals and energy revolution can we advance steadily on the path to building a strong energy nation.Nan Xiyang, Deputy Minister of the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of PetroChina Changqing Oilfield Company,elaborated on histhoughtson how to practice Daqing spirit (Iron Man spirit).Li Wanying, Director and Researcher of the Iron Man Spirit Education Center of Northeast Petroleum University,expressed histhoughtson how to cultivate studentsthroughclass education, campus culture, and social practices.Liu Xiaohua, Dean andProfessor of the school of Marxism, Changzhou University, illustrated how to integrate revolutionary resources such as Iron Man spirit into political and ideological classes of universities through red culture resource database.Guan Yuming, Senior Expert of PetroChina Northwest Marketing Company, themed on the young generation’s inheritance of Iron Man spirit, presented challenges and solutions in the process of its succession.
In the summary speech, Zhang Xiaoyong expressed his enormous gratitude to the extraordinary speeches of all experts and scholars. He pointed out that, passing on and promoting Iron Man spirit is not only a cultural awareness, but also a deep-rooted responsibility for XSYU. Taking this seminar as a new starting point, the university is committed to continuing to make penetrating analysis and research on the profound connotation and contemporary value of Iron Man spirit, thus making breakthroughs surrounding its research and succession.
