School of Sports, which originated as the Department of Physical Education and Sports and was renamed the Department of Physical Education in 2004, became School of Physical Education in 2022. Under its umbrella, it houses the General Office, the Teaching Office, the Student Affairs Office, the University Sports Research and Teaching Institute, the Social Sport Guidance and Management Professional Teaching Institute, the Master’s Degree Teaching Program in Physical Education, the Group Competition Office, the Student Fitness and Health Monitoring Center, and the Center for Equipment and Facilities Management.
School of Sports currently employs 47 faculty members. Among these, there are 38 teachers, including four professors, eleven associate professors, twenty lecturers, and three assistants; six teachers hold doctoral degrees, with another three pursuing their doctorates. There are twelve Master’s supervisors and six industry mentors. There are two international-level judges and six national-level judges, along with twenty-one National First-class referees. Additionally, one state champion athlete and two national first-class athletes are affiliated with the academy.
The School currently has a Bachelor’s program in Social Sport Guidance and Management. It aims to cultivate high-quality applied specialists who possess fundamental theoretical knowledge and skills in social sports, capable of fulfilling organizational and management responsibilities for public fitness activities in the sports and related fields, health consultation guidance, teaching, research, as well as business development and marketing. Graduates have been widely recognized by their industry with consistently high employment rates exceeding 90% in recent years.

Since 2021, the School has won first prize in one provincial teaching competition and second prize in another; it has been approved for one National Project on Humanities and Social Sciences by the Ministry of Education of China; two provincial and ministerial research projects, and over thirty departmental-level projects. The School has also published one textbook, and sixteen articles in top journals. Over eighty awards at provincial and ministerial-level sports competitions were obtained by the school teams that the school nurtured, including a bronze medal in a national team event and over eighty awards in provincial and ministerial-level competitions. Furthermore, the School was designated as the Shaanxi Province Youth Volleyball Training Center, and the Shaanxi Province Primary and Secondary School Campus Volleyball Training Center, and awarded as an Outstanding Member of the Shaanxi Student Sports Association for the year 2024.

The School boasts ample teaching facilities and resources, with its sports and fitness facilities spanning a total area of 122,500 square meters. It houses ten indoor training rooms dedicated to taekwondo, table tennis, aerobics, martial arts, yoga, spin bikes, fitness and bodybuilding. The School has a basic laboratory for sports and health, measuring 180 square meters in size. With nine on-and off-campus internship centers, it facilitates the cultivation of multiple certificates alongside a bachelor’s degree, including personal trainer certificates, lifeguard certificates, nutritionist certificates, sports agent certifications, and referee level certificates. This enhances students’ overall quality and talent quality, thereby enhancing their employment competitiveness.

The School hosts a range of high-level competitions, such as the Shaanxi Province University Students’ Archery Tournament, the Archery League, the 17th Xi’an City Games (Youth Group) Volleyball Competition, and the Martial Arts Training Camp for International Students in China.

The School adheres to the goal of “daily exercise for health, growth, and lifelong benefits”, with the successful organization of the “one sport meeting” - the XSYU Track and Field Sports Meeting, the “two festivals” - the Sunshine Sports Festival and the Club Cultural Festival, and the “three competitions” -the XSYU Cup, Association Cup, and Chenxi Sports Competition serving as a catalyst. It vigorously carries out the “Running XSYU ”, “Jumping XSYU”, and “National Fitness Testing for Students” initiatives, striving to unleash the sports humanities spirit and fully unlock the educational power of sports.
Looking forward, the School shall adhere to the educational concept of “upholding moral values and cultivating talents” and prioritizing health, thoroughly implementing the CPC’s educational policy. We will continuously enhance the integration between physical education and sports, and promote innovation in this field. On this path towards inner development, the School shall strive for high-quality growth.
