To address China’s growing demand for professionals in renewable energy and strengthen disciplinary development in new energy fields, Xi'an Shiyou University established its School of New Energy in March 2022, enhancing the university’s core competitiveness. The School is committed to serving the national energy transition and advancing the “dual carbon” strategy (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality). It focuses on key areas such as new energy conversion and storage, integration of new energy with oil and gas, and new energy power generation and control, aiming to create a development pattern of deep integration between new and traditional energy sources. Through systematic implementation of the “Strong Faculty Initiative” to empower teaching faculty development, innovative establishment of a “dual-circulation” collaborative education mechanism to elevate talent cultivation standards, and continuous refinement of a performance-driven incentive system to foster innovation, the School actively promotes a new model of joint education among universities, enterprises, and local governments. It is dedicated to becoming a new high ground for talent training and technological innovation in the field of new energy.

The School currently offers two first-level master’s degree programs (Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, and Materials Science and Engineering), one interdisciplinary master’s program in New Energy and Energy Storage Engineering, and three professional master’s degree categories in Energy and Power, Materials and Chemical Engineering, and Project Management. It offers three undergraduate majors: New Energy Science and Engineering, Energy and Power Engineering, and Energy Storage Science and Engineering. The School comprises three teaching departments and one experimental teaching center, and has nearly 900 undergraduate and postgraduate students currently enrolled. The School places a strong emphasis on academic discipline and has achieved remarkable results in talent cultivation. Over the past three years, the average postgraduate admission rate for undergraduates has exceeded 35%, while the employment rate for undergraduates has remained above 92%.

The School currently has a total of 50 faculty and staff members, including 37 full-time faculty, 4 student affairs officers, 6 laboratory instructors, and 4 administrative staff. All full-time faculty members hold doctoral degrees, among whom there are 22 professors and associate professors, and 25 master’s supervisors. A total of 12 faculty members have been awarded prestigious national or provincial-level honors and titles, such as the New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education, Leading Young and Middle-Aged Science and Technology Innovators of Shaanxi Province, Outstanding Young Science and Technology Stars of Shaanxi Province, Shaanxi Young Talents, Outstanding Young Talents of Universities in Shaanxi, and recipients of the Youth Talent Support Program of the Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology.

The School has strong research capabilities, distinctive features, and outstanding achievements. It has undertaken numerous national, provincial, and ministerial research projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Science and Technology Major Project, and key projects of Shaanxi Province, as well as industry-sponsored projects commissioned by CNPC, Sinopec, CNOOC, and Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group. In response to the national strategy for the high-quality development of new energy, the School will carry out the fundamental task of “fostering virtue through education in the new era” and take the comprehensive enhancement of independent talent cultivation quality as its core objective. Aligning with its mission to build a distinctive teaching and research-oriented university, the School implements the cultivation philosophy of “personality molding, ability training, knowledge innovation, and cultural inheritance.” It actively embraces the new engineering education concept, focusing on nurturing a new generation of capable young people with sound moral grounding, intellectual ability, physical vigor, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills who will fully develop socialism and carry forward the socialist cause.
