On May 25, during our university’s third Talent Work Conference, the unveiling ceremony was held for Academician Wang Xiangzeng’s “Xi’an Shiyou University Academician Workstation for Green Development of Low-Permeability and Tight Oil and Gas.” Academician Wang Xiangzeng and the University’s Party Secretary, Chang Jiang, jointly unveiled the plaque for the Academician Workstation.

Academician Wang Xiangzeng is an outstanding alumnus of our university, having graduated from the Mining Engineering Class of 1985. He has long been dedicated to research and engineering applications in the efficient development of low-permeabilityandtight oil and gas reservoirs and integrated CCUS（Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage）technologies, making outstanding contributions to safeguarding national energy security and promoting green and low-carbon development. During his tenure as Dean of our university’s Institute of Carbon Neutrality Future Technology, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in December 2025. He has always remained devoted to hisAlma mater, consistently supporting its development, and has chosen to establish his only academician workstation at the university.

The unveiling of Academician Wang Xiangzeng’s “Xi’an Shiyou University Academician Workstation for Green Development of Low-PermeabilityandTight Oiland Gas” marks a significant milestone in our university’s indepth implementation of the talentstrengthening strategy and its accelerated construction of a highlevel scientific and technological innovation system. It also represents a landmark achievement in the university’s efforts to serve the national energy strategy and advance green and lowcarbon development. As the only workstation established by Academician Wang Xiangzeng, it carries the deep affection and earnest expectations of this distinguished alumnus for hisAlma mater, and will undoubtedly become a strategic highlandforpooling high-end talent to tackle core technologies, andproducingoriginaladvances. Going forward, our university will leverage the highendtalentof the academician and his team, focus on our distinctive “Oil & Gas + Dual Carbon” development positioning, concentrate on overcoming key technological bottlenecks in the green development of oil and gas,acceleratetheapplicationof research outcomes,builda highland for industryeducation integrationandinnovation, set a new benchmark forthe integration of industry, academia, and research in the oil and gas sector,and inject vigorous momentum into the highquality development of the university, local enterprises, and the region. This will further enable our university to better serve the national energy security strategy and the economic and social development of Shaanxi Province.

After the unveiling ceremony, Academician Wang Xiangzeng went to Jingxian Garden on the Huyi Campus and personally planted a sweet osmanthus tree (fourseason osmanthus).The Four-season Sweet Osmanthus remains evergreen throughout the year, its delicate fragrance carrying far and wide, growing ever purer and more refreshing, symbolizing Academician Wang Xiangzeng’s deep affections for his Alma mater and his earnest expectations—its fragrance lingers forever. Chang Jiang, Wang Jinfu, Cheng Yongqing, and relevant university administrators accompanied him during the activity.
