On July 24, the project “Key Technology and Its Application for Precision Separation in Crude Oil Distillation Based on Energy Conservation and Consumption Reduction”was awarded the First Prize of the Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. The award-winning research was completed by the team led by Professors Tian Yuanyu and Zhang Juntao from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Xi'an Shiyou University.This decision was made by the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government. It was made in accordance with the Measures of Shaanxi Province for Science and Technology Awards, upon review by professional evaluation panels and approval by the Provincial Science and Technology Awards Committee.This honor marks another significant breakthrough for the university in a decade at the highest level of this award.

The research team led by Professors Tian Yuanyu and Zhang Juntao is primarily composed of young scholars and emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration. There are ten members in this team: four assistant professors and six associates, with titles including associate professor and senior engineer. The team includes 1officialcandidate for the 2023 election to the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), 1 nationalhigh-leveltalentprogramrecipient, 1 Shaanxihigh-leveltalentintroductionprogramrecipient,1Shaanxiprovincialteachingmaster, and 1 teachingleadershiptalent under thespecial Sanqintalentprogram of Shaanxi Province.This research achievement addresses global challenges in precision separation and energy-efficient deep-cut technology for atmospheric and vacuum distillation of crude oil in China. Supported by sustained funding from multiple national and provincial-level projects over nearly two decades of R&D, the team innovatively proposed a new mass transfer mechanism based on liquid-phase dispersion-coalescence and invented novel precision separation technology and key equipment for crude oil distillation rooted in energy conservation principles.Therefore, this achievement elevated the energy-intensive deep-cut technology from the vacuum distillation of inferior oil products to an energy-efficient deep-cut process in atmospheric and vacuum distillation that ensures product quality,providingstrongfoundationfor realizing energy-saving and precision separation in crude oil distillation.The outcomes include 36 authorized invention patents, 1 published monograph, 56 peer-reviewed papers, and 1 petrochemical industry associationstandard.Also, it has been deployed in 27 enterprises, including Sinopec, PetroChina, CNOOC, Yanchang Petroleum Group, andsome localrefineries.Generally, it has achieved significant economic and social benefits, and has provided strong support for both of the theory and technology in terms ofenergy conservation, consumption reduction, and low-carbon transition in crude oil distillation.
