On the afternoon of Oct.28th, XSYU convened the 2025 Double Ninth Festival Symposium and Collective Birthday Celebration for retired staff aged 80, 85, 90, and 95 on Yanta Campus. Wang Jinfu, President of XSYU, and Zhang Xiaoyong, Vice President, were present. Also in attendance were deputies to the Yanta District People’s Congress, representatives of elderly birthday celebrants, and specially invited retired staff representatives. The event was hosted by Huang Jianli, director of the Department of Retirement Work.
First, on behalf of the university’s Party committee, administration, faculty, staff and students, Wang Jinfu extended his most sincere holiday greetings to the elderly birthday celebrants and all retired comrades. 2025 marks the closing year of the university’s 14th Five-Year Plan and a crucial year for mapping out the blueprint of the 15th Five-Year Plan. The university Party committee has designated this year as the “Year of Discipline Standardization, Talent Enhancement, and Reform & Innovation”. Taking the deepening of the integrated reform of education, science and technology, and talent systems and mechanisms as the main starting point, it has focused on tackling the “three major tasks” and systematically formulated and implemented the “1+10” integrated reform plan. Under the strong leadership of the Party committee, various undertakings have been fully launched and achieved phased results. When drinking water from the well, one should not forget those who dug it. While expressing gratitude and blessings to the elderly comrades, Wang Jinfu introduced the university’s development over the past year from four aspects: focusing on fostering virtue through education and deepening the reform of education methods; adhering to opening-up and integration and deepening the reform of school-running models; stimulating internal motivation and deepening the reform of management systems; and consolidating the foundation for development and deepening the reform of security mechanisms.
The happiness and well-being of elderly comrades are the core connotation of building a “Happy XSYU” and a constant concern of the university Party committee. The university has always placed the work related to retired personnel in an important position, integrating it into the overall planning and promotion of building a “First-Class XSYU, Cultural XSYU, and Happy XSYU”. In the next step, the university will continue to refine, solidify, and warm up the elderly care work, continuously improve the professionalization, refinement, and humanization of services, and strive to make the later life of all elderly comrades happier, more high-quality, and more dignified. Wang Jinfu sincerely hopes that all elderly comrades will take good care of their health, enjoy their twilight years, continue to maintain an optimistic and open-minded attitude, care for and support the university’s development as always, and together with teachers and students, witness the continuous new achievements in the construction of the “First-Class XSYU, Cultural XSYU, and Happy XSYU”.
Ma Baoqi, a retired professor from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, and Hou Yangshan, former curator of the XSYU Library, delivered speeches as representatives of the elderly birthday celebrants. Wang Shuiquan, former director of the Higher Education Research Institute, Ma Changfa, former director of the Student Affairs Office, and Hu Wene, member of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission for Retired Personnel, delivered speeches as special invited representatives. They praised the achievements made by the university’s new leading group in various tasks over the past year, put forward valuable suggestions and opinions, and thanked the university for its care and love for elderly comrades over the years. Elderly comrades have expressed that they will continue to contribute their energy to build XSYU.
Vice-President Zhang Xiaoyong extended holiday greetings to the elderly comrades and gave a detailed report on the university’s elderly care work this year from several aspects, including organizational development, spiritual and cultural life, elderly care and medical security, targeted care, and hardware support. He hoped that all elderly comrades would continue to maintain an optimistic and positive mental state, give play to their advantages in prestige and experience, offer suggestions for the university’s development, and jointly witness the university’s new progress and share its new achievements.
Professor Li Tao, Deputy to the Yanta District People’s Congress and Curator of the Library, extended holiday greetings to all seniors on behalf of the Yanta District People’s Congress. She stated that in recent years, the Yanta District Government has adhered to the principles and standards, continuously advancing the improvement of community people’s livelihood and living facilities. As a deputy to the People’s Congress, she will strive to coordinate and solve the problems encountered by seniors in their daily lives.
After the meeting, XSYU leaders took photos with representatives of the elderly birthday celebrants to commemorate the occasion. Leaders from relevant institutes including the Organization Department of the CPC XSYU Committee, Human Resources Department, Academic Affairs Office, Logistics Department, Retirement Work Office, and University Hospital attended the meeting.
