School of International Education

Overview

The School of International Education (SIE) is the designated administrative unit for international student education at Xi'an Shiyou University (XSYU). Consistently ranking among the top institutions in its sector (petroleum industry universities) and within Shaanxi Province for international student enrollment, SIE has cultivated a remarkable global alumni network, having educated over 10,000 international students from 93 countries.

SIE holds the prestigious qualification to host students under the Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) program. It has been officially recognized by the Ministry of Education as a National "Study in China" Demonstration Base. Demonstrating its commitment to quality, SIE achieved a "Grade B" rating with a 6-year validity period in the first round of the Ministry of Education's Quality Certification for Higher Education Institutions Enrolling International Students.

Scholarship System

XSYU offers a comprehensive range of scholarships to support outstanding international students:

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC)

※ Shaanxi Provincial "Sanqin" Scholarship (Note: "Sanqin" refers to the historical name for the Shaanxi region)

※ Xi'an Municipal "Belt and Road" Scholarship

※ XSYU "Iron Man" Scholarship (named after the "Iron Man" spirit of China's petroleum industry hero Wang Jinxi)

※ XSYU Academic Excellence Scholarship

Talent Cultivation

SIE focuses on degree education for international students, with a strong emphasis on leveraging XSYU's distinctive strengths in petroleum and petrochemical disciplines. We offer degree programs at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, taught in both Chinese and English.

The School houses a Chinese Language and Culture Center, providing preparatory education (pre-undergraduate/pre-graduate) and short-term Chinese language programs. To date, the Center has trained over 5,000 students, including preparatory students, visiting scholars, and short-term trainees.

SIE actively collaborates with international government agencies on tailored talent development initiatives, having undertaken projects commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Science of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Education of Thailand, and the Ministry of Mines of the Central African Republic. We pioneered the innovative "1+X" Joint Cultivation Mechanism (e.g., 1+4, 1+4+3 models), fostering collaboration between government, industry, academia, and research. This underpins our successful "Chinese + Technical Skills" educational model, equipping students with both language proficiency and industry-relevant expertise.

Our commitment to excellence in international education is reflected in our achievements:

•  National Teaching Achievement Award: Second Prize (1)

•  Shaanxi Provincial Teaching Achievement Award: Grand Prize (Top Award) (1)

•  XSYU Teaching Achievement Award: Grand Prize (Top Award) (1), Third Prize (1)

Internships & Practical Experience

SIE places paramount importance on practical training and internship opportunities for international students. Capitalizing on XSYU's strategic location in a major energy and chemical province rich in oil and gas resources, we have built a robust network of on-campus and off-campus practice platforms.

Recognizing the specific needs of international students, SIE has established 5 specialized internship bases in collaboration with leading energy companies. These bases, suitable for students in engineering disciplines, include:

CNPC Changqing Digital Education Center

No.1 Oil Production Plant, Changqing Oilfield (CNPC)

※ Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Co., Ltd.

※ Mangystau Oil and Gas Company (Kazakhstan)

※ Chuanqing Drilling Engineering Company Ltd. (Kyrgyzstan Branch) (Domestic & Overseas) Cultural Exchange Activities

SIE harnesses the dual advantages of XSYU's strength in petroleum engineering disciplines and Xi'an's rich heritage as an ancient cultural capital to create a vibrant cross-cultural exchange program for international students. Key activities include:

•  China Scholarship Council's "Experience China - Energy Enterprise Tour" (Focuses on energy companies)

•  "Gathering at XSYU, Enjoying China" International Students New Year Gala

•  "Star of Chinese" International Student Chinese Recitation Contest

•  "Dream Cup" International Student Basketball Tournament

•  Innovation and Entrepreneurship Series

•  Experiential Visits: University History Museum, "Iron Man" Spirit Exhibition Hall
