History and the Discipline
Established in 1985 with the Computer & Application Discipline, the School of Computer Science and Technology witnessed the establishment of the Computer Department by the Ministry of Oil’s Educational Bureau in April in 1985. In May 2003, it was renamed as the School of Computer Science and Technology.
The School currently has six Departments - the Department of Computer Science and Technology, the Department of Software Engineering, the Department of Network Engineering, the Department of Artificial Intelligence, the Basic Computing Institute, and the Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center. There are four corresponding undergraduate majors. Among them, the Computer Science and Technology major was selected as a Shaanxi Province characteristic specialty in 2008 and as a National First-rate Undergraduate Construction Program in 2019; the Network Engineering major was selected as a Shaanxi Province First-rate Construction Program in 2020. In the 2025 Shanghai rankings of World University Rankings by Soft Sciences, it belongs to the A-level category.
The School is currently authorized with one postgraduate degree program (Computer Science and Technology), two professional master’s degree programs (Computer Engineering, Big Data Technology and Engineering). In 1995, it received authorization for its postgraduate degree program, which was later designated as a provincial key discipline in Shaanxi Province in 2001. Since 2018, the School has been admitting graduate students under the Chinese Government Scholarship for Studies Abroad.
