The college of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was founded in 1958, formerly known as the Petroleum Refining Department of Xi’an Petroleum Institute. Following the university’s resumption of operations in 1980, it evolved into the Department of Applied Chemistry, subsequently becoming the Department of Chemical Engineering and then the Department of Petroleum Chemical Engineering. It renamed the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in 2003. As one of the longest-established departments of the university, the college focuses on the positioning of a teaching and research-oriented school around national strategic needs and the development of the energy industry. Serving as a key base in Northwest China for cultivating high-level talent and conducting scientific research in chemical engineering and technology, the college has developed a distinctive feature characterized by deep integration of “industry-academia-research-application”.
