College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

The college of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering consists of Departments of Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and Environment Engineering. The college provides four majors for undergraduate students: Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Process, and Environment Engineering, and two majors for postgraduates: Applied Chemistry and Chemical Process, and one major for engineering master’s degree: Chemical Engineering. Applied Chemistry is entitled as a provincial “Key Discipline”. It also claims a provincial “Key Lab”: Oil and Gas Field Pollution Control and Reservoir Protection Technology Lab.

Currently, the college has a teaching staff of 68 members, among whom there are 21 professors or associate professors, eight senior engineers. 24 professors are doctoral degree holders and 39 master’s degree holders. It has developed a well-structured and professionalized team for teaching and scientific research.

It provides good teaching and research conditions and environment for undergraduate and postgraduate education and scientific research. It owns a fundamental chemistry lab, a fundamental chemical engineering lab, a fundamental chemistry lab, an applied chemistry fundamental lab, a chemistry lab, a chemical engineering lab, an applied chemistry lab, an environment engineering lab and an analysis and testing center. It also owns more than 600 large experimenting and testing instrument to meet the requirements for experimental teaching for the undergraduates and postgraduates. The scientific research conducted by the college includes the theoretical and practical issues encountered in oil and gas exploration and production, oil processing and petrochemical production. It stands out in such domain as oil processing, petrochemical process, oil and petrochemical industry catalysis application technology, research and application of oil quality additives, colloid and interface chemistry theory and technology, oil and gas environmental science and engineering, particularly in oil processing and catalytic technology, research on chemicals of oil and gas fields, and research on environment protection and engineering in oil and gas fields.

In recent years, the college has won a second-class National Award for Science and Technological Progress, more than ten provincial level awards for science and technological progress, three provincial teaching achievement awards. It has published fifteen monographs and textbooks, two of which are awarded as “Distinguished Textbooks” by CNPC (China NationalPetroleum Corporation); It has more than 480 papers published in national or international journals and periodicals, of which 110 papers have been cited by SCI, EI and ISTP. The employment rate of its graduates keeps above 95%. It has developed distinctive specialties in education and scientific research, and earned a good reputation in oil and petrochemical fields.

Engineering and Process  ( 4-year undergraduate program )

This major aims at cultivating advanced and application-oriented engineers and technical talents with the basic theory, specialized knowledge, experimental skills and fundamentals of chemical production and equipment, and who are able to work in chemical production, engineering design, technical development and management, scientific research and education in such fields as oil refinery, chemical engineering, energy and environmental protection, etc.

Key Courses: Mathematics, Physics, the English Language; humanity and social science courses; basic courses of chemistry; Mechanics, Electronics; Principles of Chemical Engineering, Chemical Processes; and experimenting, engineering training, computer and engineering design, etc.

Applied Chemistry  ( 4-year undergraduate program )

This major aims at cultivating advanced and application-oriented talents with the basic theory, knowledge and experimental skills of chemistry and chemical engineering, and who are able to be engaged in production, product development, management and scientific research in the fields of petroleum, petrochemical industry, chemical engineering, energy and materials etc.

Key Courses: Mathematics, Physics, the English Language; humanities and social science courses; basic courses of chemistry; courses related to applied chemistry; experimenting, internship, computer, comprehensive chemical experiment, etc.

Environment Engineering ( 4-year undergraduate program )

This major aims at cultivating advanced and application-oriented talents with the fundamentals on the control and treatment of waste water, waste gas and solid wastes generated by factories, ore yards and sewage. The graduates will be engaged in management, designing, planning, construction, research and development work regarding environmental protection in the fields of petroleum and petrochemical industry, environmental protection designing and monitoring organizations, scientific research units and environmental protection units.

Key Courses: Mathematics, Physics, the English Language; humanities and social science courses; basic courses of chemistry; basic courses of engineering; specialized courses of environment engineering; experiment, engineering practice, computer, training on scientific research and engineering design methods etc.

Chemistry ( 4-year undergraduate program )

This major aims at cultivating advanced and application-oriented talents with the basic theory, knowledge and experimental skills of chemistry. The graduates will be engaged in production, product development, education, scientific research and technical management in the field of chemistry or other relevant fields.

Key Courses: Mathematics, Physics, the English Language; humanities and social science courses; basic courses of chemistry; specialized courses of chemistry; basic chemical experiment, specialized experiment, production internship, computer, comprehensive chemical experiment, etc.
