College of Economics and Business Management

The College of Economics and Business Management was founded in 1981. Currently, there is a teaching staff of 90 members, among whom there are thirteen professors, 22 associate professors and five senior engineers. 17 teachers are doctoral degree holders, and 20 are Ph.D. candidates. One teacher is entitled as a provincial “Teaching Master”, and another a provincial “Model Teacher”.

It has six majors for postgraduate studies: Management Science and Engineering, Industrial Economics, Business Management, Tourism Management, Accounting, and Technological Economics and Management. It was authorized to confer three special degrees: Project Management Degree of Engineer, MBA and MPAcc. There are 9 undergraduate majors: International Economy and Trading, Accounting, Financial Management, Business Administration, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Information Management and Information System, Project Management and Electronic Commerce. There are totally 2,600 students in the college, among whom there are about 300 postgraduates.

The college’s well-equipped “Lab of Resource of Enterprise Economic Evaluation and Management” is a Key Lab of the university. There are a number of specialized labs and elementary labs, including one Accounting Simulation Lab, one Engineering Management Lab, one ERP Sand Table Simulation Lab and one Human Resource Management Lab. A provincial philosophical and social science research center – Hydrocarbon Business Management Research Center is also a subsidiary unit of the college.

In recent years, it has made fruitful achievements in teaching and academic research. It has built up a well-configured team of research work and established consistent and mature research directions, covering the areas of resource economy assessment theories and techniques, oil/gas accounting theories and techniques, enterprise strategic management, environment management and assessment, economic development theory in western China, enterprises human resource management modes, management information system theory and technology. Since 2005, it has more than 700 papers published, among which more than 300 are published in core journals. Besides, it has published about 40 textbooks and monographs. So far, it has won 18 provincial and ministerial prizes, and undertaken more than 100 scientific research projects, and three of them are funded by NSSF (National Social Science Funds). The annual research funds average about 2000,000 Yuan.

Business Administration ( 4-year undergraduate program )

Business Administration is a big category, including five undergraduate majors: Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, Human Resources (HR) Management, and Finance Management. The students are recruited as majors of Business Administration, but they graduate in different specific areas. The five majors are for undergraduate students who complete the study in four years. In the first two years, over 20 “core courses”, i.e. generally required public courses and basic major courses are provided. In the last two years specialized instruction is performed, where different specialized basic courses and major courses are taught for different majors. This division in direction is made by following individual’s intentions, but with a view for the market needs and overall distributions of students. Graduation project/thesis should be completed at the end of the fourth year.

Business Administration  ( 4-year undergraduate program )

This major aims at cultivating advanced and specialized talents who are competent for management of comprehensive operations or international operations in all kinds of businesses. The students are expected to have a good command of the philosophy, organization, methods and means of modern business management, to master the production technologies, and domestic and international environment for business, to be familiar with international commercial practices, to be able to settle problems using their knowledge and put forward reasonable and constructive suggestions concerning business decision-making, and to be fluent in a foreign language to do the work of international business administration.

Marketing  ( 4-year undergraduate program )

This major aims at cultivating advanced and specialized talents who have a good command of economics, laws, management and marketing, and who are capable of strategic research of marketing development, marketing planning and long-run development of enterprises. The graduates are expected to master the basic principles and knowledge of management, economics, modern marketing, and qualitative and quantitative analysis of marketing. They are also expected to know well about both of the national principles, policies, and rules of marketing and the international managerial approaches and rules. Besides, they should be fluent in a foreign language to express themselves well in oral and written words, and be good at interpersonal communication and be able to analyze and resolve the practical problems in marketing.

Accounting  ( 4-year undergraduate program )

This major aims at cultivating advanced and specialized talents who are competent for financial accounting, financial management, and tax planning in all kinds of businesses. The graduates are mainly employed in businesses, public accounting firms, auditors’ firms and operational management departments. The graduates are expected to master the basic theories, professional knowledge and skills of accounting, to be fluent in a foreign language, and to be able to conduct surveys on their own and skillfully settle accounting problems with the help of computers.

Financial Management ( 4-year undergraduate program )

The major aims at cultivating advanced and specialized talents who have a good command of financing theory and practice of modern companies, with a knowledge of management, economics, finance and laws, and who are competent for financing work in businesses, finance and securities and governments. The graduates are expected to master the basic theory and knowledge of finance, know well about modern financial management methods, be good at accounting with the help of computers, be fluent in a foreign language to express themselves well in oral and written words, and be capable of interpersonal communication, getting information and analyzing and solving financial problems.

HR Management  ( 4-year undergraduate program )

The major aims at cultivating advanced and specialized talents for labor and personnel management. The graduates are mainly employed in posts of labor and personnel management in administrative departments of governments at all levels, business management departments, enterprises and public institutions. The graduates are expected to master the basic theory, knowledge and methods of labor and personnel management, be fluent in a foreign language, and be able to conduct surveys, analyze, and solve related problems in employment, wages, welfare, insurance and etc.

Information Management and Information System ( 4-year undergraduate program )

The major aims at cultivating advanced and specialized talents for management information system development and application. The graduates are mainly employed in enterprises and public institutions. They are expected to have a good command of basic theory, knowledge and skills in computer, applied mathematics and administrative management and are able to collect and process relevant business information, perform system analysis and model designing and computer software development.

Engineering Management ( 4-year undergraduate program )

This major aims at cultivating specialized talents for engineering project management. The students are required to learn the basic theory and methods of engineering management, and the knowledge about construction and installation engineering, to receive basic training of engineering project management, to be familiar with the laws and regulations about engineering construction, to have a good command of basic theory and methods of investment economy, and to know well about development trend of national and international engineering management. The graduates should have the ability of engineering project management, engineering project decision-making and whole process management, and solving management problems with the help of computers.

Electronic Commerce  ( 4-year undergraduate program )

This major aims at cultivating specialized talents who are of strong independent work ability and practical ability. The students are expected to master basic theoretical knowledge of economic management, know well about the theory, knowledge and methods related to computing science and technology, and be able to do the work of internet management and maintenance, webpage making, and information construction of enterprises. They are also expected to have a good command of a foreign language.

International Economy and Trading  ( 4-year undergraduate program )

The major aims at cultivating advanced and specialized talents who are competent for practical business, management and planning in foreign-related business and trading departments, overseas-funded enterprises, and government organizations. The students are expected to master fundamental principles of economics, basic theory, knowledge and skills of international economy and trading, to be familiar with international trading rules and practices, and China’s policies and regulations in foreign trading, to have a good command of a foreign language, and to be able to handle businesses using the knowledge they have learned.
