**T**he College of Science offers five majors for undergraduates and one major for postgraduates. The discipline of Mathematics offers two majors for undergraduate students: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, and Information and Computing Science. The discipline of Physics offers three majors for undergraduate students: Optical Information Science and Technology, Applied Physics and Photoelectric Information Engineering, and one major for postgraduate students: Physical Electronics.

**T**he college claims a strong and professional faculty of 97 members, among whom there are 10 professors, 21 associate professors, 75 master’s degree holders. The college lays great emphasis on the construction of teaching faculty. The Physics teaching team is entitled as a provincial “Model Teaching Team”. Two professors are entitled as provincial “Teaching Masters” and one teacher is entitled as a provincial “Distinguished Young Teacher”.

**T**he college is currently composed of the following departments and research centers: Mathematics Sector, Applied Mathematics Department, College Physics Sector, Applied Physics Department, Physics Lab, Mathematics and Computing Lab, Applied Physics Lab, Photoelectric Sensing and Well Logging Lab (provincial-level key lab), Shaanxi Oil and Gas Resources Optical Fiber Exploration Engineering Technology Center (a “13115 Engineering Technology Center”) and Reservoir Testing Dynamic Studies Center (CNPC well-logging key lab). The Physics Lab is entitled as a provincial “Model Education Center for Physics Experiment” among local colleges and universities.

**T**he college is responsible for teaching mathematics and physics to all students in the university. In recent years, it has undertaken over 20 educational reform projects commissioned by the university or the province, and won over 10 teaching achievement awards. “College Physics” is entitled as a provincial “Brand Course”.

**T**he discipline of Mathematics offers such directions of studies as Information Processing, Computer-aided Designing and Graphics, Optimization and Reservoir Numerical Analysis. The discipline of physics offers Optical Sensing T Photo Electronics and Components, and Photoelectric Testing. The college has undertaken over 20 research projects funded by national “863 Program” and “National Science Funds”, won four research achievement awards, including one National Scientific Invention Award, acquired five patents of invention and has 200 academic papers published. In 2008, the Physics Research Team won the national “Labor’s Day Award”.

**Information and Computing Science**( 4-year undergraduate program )

**T**his major aims at cultivating advanced and application-oriented talents who have good mathematical thinking ability, master the fundamentals and skills of information and computing science, and know how to solve problems in information technology and engineering computing. The graduates will be able to do scientific research, software development, computer application, teaching and management work in the fields of science, education, information industry, and economics and finance.

**Applied Physics **( 4-year undergraduate program )

**T**his major aims at cultivating advanced and application-oriented talents who know the fundamentals and techniques of physics, and who have good scientific literacy, good foundation in mathematics and computer, and who have received good training on how to conduct practical research and scientific experiment, and who have strong ability to refresh their knowledge and be adaptive scientific development. The graduates will be able to do scientific research, teaching, engineering technology and production management in the fields of physics, optical electronics, measuring and testing, and computing technology.

**Optical Information Science and Technology **( 4-year undergraduate program )

**T**his major aims at cultivating advanced and application-oriented talents who know the theories, experimental skills and specialized knowledge of Optical Information Technology and Physics, and who are well trained in scientific research and scientific thinking, and who have the fundamental ability to conduct scientific research and development in the discipline and other relevant disciplines. The graduates will be engaged in scientific research, teaching, product design and development, and production management in the fields of Optical Sensing, Optical Communication, Optical Information Processing, Laser Technology, Photoelectric Detection, and Photoelectric Display, etc.
